Drawing inspiration from the New York City’s FreeConvo movement, the CampusCouches campaign sets up sofas at various locations around Penn’s campus.
Passersbys are invited to spend time on the furniture and engage with each other in conversation. The purpose is simple: Have an informal conversation with someone you haven’t met before, with no agenda in mind.
Facilitators are present at each set of CampusCouches location to help start and continue conversations and to help answer any and all questions about TableTalk.
See a couch. Sit down. Talk.

You never know who you could meet on a campus couch! We’ve had some incredible moments on our couches and we can’t wait to make more!
We’ve had students who realize they are in the same class and find their future study buddies, we’ve seen prospective students bond with current students, we’ve had the University President, Amy Gutmann, ask students how their semesters are going, we had police officers interact with current students about important safety issues, we’ve had graduate students connect with undergraduates, we’ve invited families to connect with other families during Family Weekend, we’ve had faculty interact with students they’ve never met before, we’ve co-hosted our couches events with different student organizations, we’ve met countless current TableTalkers who wanted to join the team, and so much more.
Look out for our next CampusCouches in the Spring when the warm weather returns! Until then, check out our other initiatives going on all semester long.
